BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A major protest broke out on Saturday morning after local residents intercepted a Matador van allegedly carrying government relief materials from a warehouse located near the residence of former minister and Central Howrah MLA Arup Roy. Protesters alleged that blankets, tarpaulins, PPE kits and other government supplies had been stored in the warehouse for an extended period and were being removed from the premises. Following the interception of the vehicle, residents gathered at the site and raised slogans, leading to heightened tension in the area.
According to local allegations, the warehouse contained large quantities of relief materials, including sacks of blankets, tarpaulins, PPE kits, wheelchairs and other items intended for public distribution. Protesters questioned why such materials were being stored in a warehouse associated with a political office. The area was subsequently cordoned off as demonstrations intensified, with residents demanding an explanation regarding the stockpiled supplies and the attempted removal of the goods.
Local political workers joined the protest after the vehicle was stopped, and the opening of the warehouse reportedly led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of relief materials. Police personnel arrived at the scene to control the situation, and a heated exchange took place between officers and protesters. Former minister Arup Roy denied all allegations related to the incident. The development comes a day after police reportedly recovered a large quantity of supplies from a warehouse near the residence of former Domjur MLA Kalyan Ghosh.
